Research infrastructures for Africa-Europe cooperation

Third CAAST-Net stakeholders’ conference on Africa-Europe S&T cooperation with PAERIP

The third CAAST-Net stakeholders’ conference on Africa-Europe S&T cooperation will take place from the 3 to 4 December 2012 in Accra, Ghana.

The two-day event will be held in collaboration with PAERIP (Promoting African – European Research Infrastructure Partnerships). PAERIP is a project funded under FP7 (Infrastructures) to promote research infrastructure partnerships between Europe and Africa.

The conference aims to enrich and strengthen the Africa-Europe science, technology and innovation (STI) cooperation by providing a forum for exchange of opinions and mutual learning on the role of research infrastructures (RI) in scientific and technological cooperation partnerships between Africa and Europe. Organisers anticipate about 100 participants from Africa and Europe.

Expected outcomes include: improved mutual understanding of the perceptions, roles and success factors of policies related to RI in Africa and Europe; and scenarios for enhancing the outcomes of Africa-Europe cooperation partnerships through the preparing of financial instruments for joint activities in the field of RI for addressing the needs of scientific and technological R&D for global societal challenges. Conference proceedings and a peer-reviewed policy paper on RI and bi-regional STI cooperation partnerships are also anticipated outcomes.
